Erica Yaeger

School:  University of Colorado Boulder

Degree program/Concentration:  Master's in Outdoor Recreation Economy (emphasis areas are Leading Sustainable Businesses & Inclusivity and Belonging)

Where you currently live:  Salt Lake City, Utah

I initially pursued this degree to diversify my resume, as the entirety of my career was as a Recreation Therapist, where I utilized recreation as a modality for treatment. While I valued that work, I wanted to move away from crisis management and learn how to use the outdoors as a preventative space where youth can learn, grow, and develop healthy skills that naturally build self-efficacy, resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Ultimately, I hope to use what I’ve learned through this degree to create and support outdoor experiences that are intentional, accessible, and meaningful for young people. I want to help create spaces where youth can challenge themselves, build connections, develop lifelong skills, and experience the outdoors as a place for growth and well-being!!!

I’m currently the Director of Overnight Camping at the YMCA of Northern Utah, where I oversee our two overnight camps, YMCA Camp Roger and YMCA Mill Hollow, as well as our adventure programs. Outside of work, I also spend as much time outdoors as I can. I mountain bike, ski, snowboard, backpack, rock climb... any and every adventure I can find.
